Omuntele is one of the rural constituencies of Oshikoto with a population of 16,865 people. The constituency has productive land in the area of Ombuga grassland area which is good for agricultural production. Omuntele covers an area of 1629.61 km2 in extend and a population density of 10.5.
Economic Activities
Subsistence farming – households depends directly on agriculture for substance where Mahangu (pearl millet) is the main grown crop in the constituency. The Government is promoting surplus production among subsistence farmers as a means of generating cash income. Most of the livestock farming takes place in Ombuga grassland area.
The administrative center for Omuntele constituency is in Omuntele village. Development in Omuntele comprises of small scale businesses as well as government services such as Omuntele Clinic and the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry. Omuntele constituency is popular for its large deposits of salt at Ekango salt pan (also known as Ekango lyomongwa). The salt pan is located 14 km south of Omuntele administrative center and presents the region with great potential for salt mining and processing.
