EENGODI CONSTITUENCY 

Eengodi constituency is one the remote and typical rural constituencies of Oshikoto with a population of 13 500 (according the 4th Delimitation of 2013) people. It covers an area of 2,107.77 km2 in extend and a population density of 2.8. Eengodi is the most sparsely populated constituency considering that it is characterized by inaccessible vast remote localities and cattle post areas. The constituency is also poorly connected in terms of road and telecommunication networks.

The administrative centre for Eengodi is Onamishu. The area is characterized by a cluster of small businesses combined with public facilities and offices such as Onamishu clinic, Community hall as well as the Ministry of Agriculture, Water & Forestry.

Economic Activities

Agriculture

Agricultural activities contribute immensely to the livelihood of the inhabitants of Eengodi constituency. Mahangu is a common crop produced in the constituency. The constituency is characterized by cattle post areas where subsistence farmers engage in cattle and goats farming.  Eengodi is one of the constituencies with fertile land for agricultural production.

Business activities

The most business activities in Eengodi include informal traders who sell liquor, basic amenities as well as agricultural products. The thick vegetation within Eengodi has afforded opportunities to local residents to engage in carpentry activities. The carpenters mostly manufacture beds, doors, tables and chairs, which they sell at Onamishu Centre.

Potential Investment 

  • Opportunity for establishing a dairy processing plant in Onamishu to add value to local products such as milk, cheese and butter.
  • Opportunity exists for carpenters who want to manufacture quality carpentry products such as doors, chairs, beds, cupboards, tables etc.

Education: Eengodi constituency has a total of 23 schools that comprises of 1 junior primary, 10 primary schools and 12 combined schools. There is no secondary school in the constituency

Health: There is only 1 clinic that serves the entire population of Eengodi constituency, no health centre or district hospital.
