Okankolo is one of the rural constituencies of Oshikoto region with a population of 13 204 people. The constituency has a total area of 1,643.01 km2 and a population density of 4.5. Okankolo is the fourth sparsely populated area due to the thick vegetation and domination of cattle post areas. The administrative center for Okankolo constituency is Onyuulaye Settlement area. The area is distinguished by recent developments such as the private small businesses combined with government facilities and offices such as Onyuulaye clinic, Police Station, Education Circuit office as well as the Ministry of Agriculture, water & Forestry.
Economic Activities
Agriculture
- The inhabitants of Okankolo are subsistence farmers who depend on crops and livestock farming for survival. The common crops produced include Mahangu, beans and sorghum. The inhabitants also farm with cattle, and goats.
- There is an auction pan at Onyuulaye which is used by the local famers to market and trade their livestock.
Business
Okankolo business Centre is regarded as the economic hub for Okankolo constituency and support the livelihood of many people in the constituency. This business Centre has small and medium enterprises that created a number of job opportunities for the community.

- The constituency has potential for investment in agri-business activities such as green irrigation projects, small scale farming because of the good rain fall received annually in the constituency.
- The availability of abundant underground water call for opportunities for the establishment of a mineral water production plant in Okankolo.
Onyuulaye Settlement
Onyuulaye was declared as a settlement area on 02nd July 2007. The settlement has experienced significant growth over the recent years and the Regional council has made considerable efforts to transform Onyuulaye into an urban center. Currently, Onyuulaye has two (2) proclaimed townships (Onyuulaye Proper and Onyuulaye extension 1).
Onyuulaye is strategically linked to various economic centers in terms of road network such Onayena, Eengodi, Onyaanya as well Omulonga and Eenhana in Ohangwena region. This provides an opportunity for Onyuulaye to become a central transport hub.
Education: Okankolo constituency has a total of 23 schools that comprises of 2 junior primary schools, 9 primary schools, 11 combined schools and 1 secondary school.
Health: There are 3 health facilities within the constituency, 2 clinics and a health centre.
